Venedy - Mr. Gary Walter Helbig of Venedy, IL, departed this life at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in O'Fallon, IL on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at 8:20 A.M. He had attained the age of 81 years, 7 months and 8 days.

Mr. Helbig was born on December 21, 1943, in St. Louis, MO the son of Delio and Marguerite Helbig. He was united in marriage to Carol Kay Suedmeyer on July 27, 1963 and she survives his passing.

Gary served with distinction in the United States Marine Corps from 1962 to 1966. Following his military service, he was employed by Metropolitan Life from 1966 to 1974, engaged in farming from 1974 to 1982, worked in agricultural sales from 1982 to 1985, and subsequently joined AT&T, where he remained until 1995. Gary was also a member of St. Salvator Lutheran Church in Venedy, Illinois.

Left to mourn his passing is his wife, Carol Helbig of Venedy, IL; son, Russell Helbig and wife Diane of Addieville, IL and their children, Alex Helbig of VA and Elizabeth Helbig of CA; son, Kent Helbig and wife Kellee of Oakdale and their children, Rodney and Julia Helbig of Lively Grove, IL; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at the St. Salvator Lutheran Church in Venedy, IL on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at 11 A.M. with Rev. James d'Entremont officiating. Interment will follow in the Zion United Church of Christ Cemetery in Addieville, IL.

Friends may call at the Campagna Funeral Home in Okawville, IL on Friday from 5 P.M. to 8 P.M. and on Saturday at the church from 9 A.M. until the service hour.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran School in Okawville or the Parkinson Foundation and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home.
